Orongo Bay Homestead

Orongo Bay Homestead
Sequestered in 15 private acres by the sea just five minutes drive from romantic and historic Russell, the heritage-listed First American Consulate (as this 1870's country house is known) offers restorative peace and calm, organic-focused cuisine, and accommodation in three en suite rooms in the architect-designed Lakeside Retreat.
Food and travel writer Michael Hooper and partner Chris Wharehinga Swannell (of Maori ancestry) prepare a "bake-house breakfast" delivered to your room, with home-baked breads and croissants, home-made conserves from their organic gardens and orchard and eggs from free-range hens.
Central to all the activities on the water, in the wineries, and across the beaches of the bay of 144 islands, the two-storey Homestead is without pretention but generously provisioned with modern comforts, respect and attention.
At least four hours notice is required to prepare your room.
