The Theatre Royal Hotel is a lovingly restored miners hotel, and once world-renowned theatre. This gold rush era Hotel features six themed ensuite rooms inside the hotel, luxurious suites at the Old Bank of New Zealand located directly accross the street from the Hotel, Miners Cottages located behind the Hotel and rooms in McEnaneys cottage, a shared four bedroom cottage also located across the street from the hotel and Burridges Miners Cottage 500m from the Hotel.
We offer your favourite West Coast brewed beers, as well as a fine selection of wines and spirits, a restaurant and cafe. We invite you to come and discover the colourful past of Kumara, which featured the Last Great Gold Rush and was the home of N.Z.s longest serving Premier, Richard John Seddon.

- Miners Cottage
- Behind the Theatre Royal Hotel are six stand alone Miners Cottages. These stunning, quiet, spacious elegant new cottages, sleep four people and feature large outdoor decks with lovely peaceful, private bush views.
Cottages have a spacious bathroom featuring dual basins, shower and an old time hip style bath tub.
They also have a well equipped kitchen with double ceramic cooktop, Microwave oven, toaster, electric kettle and coffee plunger.
The cottages have one large bedroom featuring two single beds (these beds can make into a King upon request), a television and a dressing table.
In the large light open studio / bed sitting room looking over deck to bush there is one King bed that can be converted into twin singles upon request and elegant furnishings including antique dining suites and writing desks evoke a memory of times gone by but in combination with all modern conveniences such as heat pumps, double glazing and a television.
Storage corridor for suitcases, boots, etc leaving your rooms uncluttered.
Lock up garage for bikes.
One cottage is wheel chair accessible.

- Old Bank Building Queen Victoria Suite
- Situated directly across from the Theatre Royal Hotel, is the ?Olde Bank of New Zealand? which been lovingly restored into two luxurious Suites.
The Queen Victoria Suite features antique furniture and William Morris wall papers and textiles. It boasts high and decorative ceilings and crystal chandeliers. The master bedroom is romantically appointed with a four poster bed and adjoining rose coloured bathroom, where the claw footed bath invites total relaxation. The second bedroom aptly named the French room is delicately sized with one double and one single bed. There is a second bathroom adjacent to this bedroom. - Book Here
- Old Bank Building Seddon Suite
- The Seddon Suite pays homage to the era of Kumara's most famous gentry, Premier Richard John Seddon. This stately suite is comprised of an ?Olde? world lounge and table, in addition to the master bedroom and adjourning bathroom. The gold ensuite with claw foot bath is on the site of the original gold office. Relax in the opulence of the Seddon Suite.
