Room Descriptions
- King/Twin with shared bathroom
- Looking for character? Stay in our new lodge on a farmlet close to all beautiful sights of the Nelson Tasman area. Room with super-king bed and shared bathroom facilities. Breakfast included Nove to end of Apr.
The Pear Orchard sits slightly elevated within an idyllic rural setting in Hope, just outside Richmond, overlooking the Waimea Plains with its orchards, wineries and incredible produce. The farmlet comprises an orchard of approximately 1,200 pear trees, paddocks housing a few cows and lambs and a large pond.
The newly built Pear Orchard Lodge has seven bedrooms, a large open plan kitchen and dining area for shared use, a large covered verandah and a number of bathrooms.
The Lodge is double-glazed and insulated to a high standard, utilises solar water heating technology and an efficient log burner, heating the building with renewable resources grown on the farm. Energy-wise appliances and light bulbs reduce the power consumption even further.
There are two of these bedrooms situated upstairs in the lodge and one on the ground floor, which is wheelchair accessible. The warm and sunny room has idyllic views across our pond and the Waimea Plains. In the backdrop you can see the mountain ranges of the Kahurangi National Park. The room has a super-king sized bed and uses shared bathroom facilities.
Guests are welcome to self-cater and use the spacious lodge kitchen, dining area (with a log burner) and outdoor barbeque. Alternatively we can offer breakfast if requested for a small additional charge. Our breakfast options generally include some of our own produce, such as pear juice, eggs, jams and honey as well as our freshly baked bread. Having two small children ourselves, we are family-friendly and can provide a portacot if you are travelling with a baby.
There is a shared lodge bathroom with a luxurious bath, blissful after a busy day out exploring! Our hay barn, next to the lodge building doubles as a covered play area with a football table.
Laundry services are available. WiFi access is free.
Our guests are welcome to explore the farm. Meet our friendly chickens, ducks (perhaps even sample some of their eggs for breakfast!) and geese, enjoy having fantail follow you amongst the pear trees, spot our local kingfisher, wood pigeons and birds of prey! There are lots of quail about, the odd pheasant and of course our resident paradise ducks on the pond.
A perfect base to explore the Top of the South and the Nelson region! Just outside Richmond, close to stunning beaches, great walking tracks and the famous Tasman Great Taste Cycle Trail.
Head out to enjoy the amazing views from the top of the Barnicoat Range - the track literally starts at our doorstep. Or head to the near Aniseed Valley for some great walks (day hikes as well as overnight options). Enjoy a day's cycling along the new Tasman Great Taste Trail - from our place, the trails lead through orchards towards the wineries of Brightwater and further out to Wakefield, or along Rabbit Island and the Moutere coast to Mapua, or even right into Nelson.
If you're feeling lazy, have a relaxing day at the beach or stop at a local winery, restaurant or cafe at Mapua Wharf, Upper Moutere or in the Waimea Plains.
Richmond, our local town, is just 5min away and offers all the daily conveniences: supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and shops.
Within a radius of 20 minutes drive you can reach lovely Nelson with its famous Farmers Market, art galleries, cafes and restaurants, and heritage buildings, the stunning beaches of Rabbit Island, amazing walking tracks starting from the Aniseed Valley, arty Mapua, Ruby Bay and Tasman, as well as historic Wakefield and Brightwater, the German village of Sarau (Upper Moutere) and Motueka. Another 20 minutes take you to Kaiteriteri, the Abel Tasman National Park or to St. Arnaud and the pristine Nelson Lakes. Even the Marlborough Sounds are just about 1 hour's drive from our house.
We can organise airport pick ups or collect you from the Richmond bus depot if you are travelling without a car. We offer free bikes to guests, for exploring the local area. - Book Here
